blog-tember day 9 // dear me,

Wednesday, Sept. 9: Write a letter to sixteen-year-old you. Any advice or funny stories?

Dear sixteen-year-old me,

Hi. It’s me.

I know things have been kind of crazy lately with making decisions and everything. Don’t worry about it so much. It all works out, I promise. I know it doesn’t always feel like it but you’re figuring this life thing out. You’ve got a lot more to learn but it’s all going to be a-okay. You’ll be figuring this thing out forever so don’t worry too much about getting it all right tomorrow.

You get into Middle College, so don’t stress over that interview so much. Just remember, “it is what it is” – that helps. You’re going to meet some really cool people who will help you not feel so lonely. Don’t forget to eat – food is fuel and you look great [trust me, you’ll look back in five years and believe it]. People like you and you have good ideas, don’t tell yourself otherwise.

Try things! Go out there and do your absolute best. If it doesn’t work out, hey at least you tried and now you know something about yourself. Just don’t give up on yourself too soon. You’ve got it in you. Be brave and do the scary things – time has to pass and you’ll get through it [and those things usually make for the best stories].

Stand up for yourself. You don’t have to accept misplaced blame in order to make other people happy – it doesn’t work that way. Forgive others and give them the benefit of the doubt. But just remember that some people are toxic and it’s okay to cut them out of your life. And when it comes to friends, don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Maintain those long-standing friendships – you’ll be thankful you did. Good friends are treasures and make all the difference in the world.

Figure out what you’re passionate about – and then don’t stop doing those things. Learn how to run, maintain a blog, take photos and print them, read great books, keep creating stuff and cooking. It doesn’t matter if it seems random, all those things you like fit together.

Apologize when you’re wrong. Stand up for others. Keep pressing on, because tomorrow will be in the past some day. Be kind to yourself & extend yourself grace. Not every day is going to be perfect, but always look for the bright side – you’re good at that so don’t quit.

It’s good to be weird and goofy. Keep doing you, because there is no one else on this planet that can do that and you’re the best at it.

Never forget: you’re loved, you’re valuable, you will do great things today.

It’s not always easy, but it gets better,
M

p.s. I know it doesn’t seem possible, but you end up with that amazing boy – so don’t feel dumb for not giving up on him, he needs that. He even marries you. And he loves you more and better every day and he never gives up on you [and you get to eat breakfast with him every single day and it’s awesome].16love

    1. Yes! Haha those stories are so fun.
I remember reading somewhere years ago that a vast majority of people meet the person they’re going to marry by the time they’re 16 and I thought “Gosh, I hope not!” haha
